John 14

Jesus said, "I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever." John 14:16

The Holy Spirit longs to guide us in many areas - to know Christ more intimately, to love him more deeply, to serve him more fully. However, when we seek wisdom from our Counselor, we are often most interested in guidance that will make our own lives easier or more pleasant. "If I take this job, will it lead to financial success?" "Which potential marriage partner will make me the most happy?" The Holy Spirit is generally more focused on God's agenda. He wants us to ask questions such as, "Where is God at work around me?" and, "How can I contribute?" Prayerfully consider these questions, and then ask the Lord, "How can I serve you?"

What is one current area in your life in which you need the guidance and strength of the Holy Spirit?

Without the Holy Spirit, none of us can serve as Jesus served. The Spirit is the power in a servant's heart.
