"He is no fool . . . "

Hey guys,

Yesterday, we came across some hard sayings of Jesus about "dying to self" in Luke 9: 18-27. Here is a powerful testimony of five guys who literally "die to self". They gave their lives for the gospel sake.

"He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep . . . to gain what he cannot lose."

That's a strange saying - what do we give? And what do we gain?

It was written by Jim Elliot, who was a missionary to people in Equador. He very much wanted the Auca Indians there to hear about God's love, even though they were dangerous people. He and four other men began to make contact, but before they got very far they were all ambushed and killed by the Aucas. Jim was only twenty-nine when he died - but he knew that it was very important to give his life to God (giving what he couldn't keep). He also knew that whatever happened to him, he had everlasting life with God (gaining what he couldn't lose).

Look back at Luke 9:24. Do you see the connection?
